Warning!! Never mix ethanol and fire
While working in the lab the other day, I set my hand on fire.
I was doing plant work and the forceps I was using needed to be sterile. And so I was using a bunsen burner and my ethanol spray to sterilise the yoke. I was also using ethanol to swab my gloves, which I had forgotten about. Anyways I sprayed the forceps and swept it through the flame like I had down a gizillion times before. I noticed that the forceps had gotten particularly hot so i dropped it. But my hand was still hot....really really REALLY hot!! And when I looked down at my hand was surrounded by a blue flame!!
I have illustrated the event below. The tears and size of the flame may be slightly exaggerated for dramatic effect.
Thank god for the latex glove!! Don't try it at home kids
